Construction-related Blackfoot River floating closure lifted in Milltown area >
MILLTOWN– A floating closure on the Blackfoot River in the Milltown area, in place since July 15, was lifted today after railway bridge construction concluded earlier this week.
The closure, previously in place from Weigh Station Fishing Access Site downstream to the point where the river crosses under Interstate 90, was put in place for public safety related to work on a BNSF Railway Company bridge. A portion of the Milltown State Park Gateway Trail in the immediate area is still closed but will open sometime in the next few weeks after the construction cleanup is complete.
There will likely be another temporary floating closure on this same stretch of river for a portion of the year in 2027 for projected Interstate 90 bridge work in the same area. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks recreation staff will provide updates once the highway bridge construction timeline is finalized.
